Pastor's Corner
The Magi's Guides

December 12, 2007

Dear Friend,

Pastor Mark FerrellI was thinking more about the wise men today. Here’s a group of men who lived hundreds of miles away from Palestine, but who were alert to what was going on about them. They were interested in spiritual matters. They saw a star in the heavens, and they began to search.

magi's guidesThey found an ancient writing that said a star would herald the birth of a new king, so they began to follow the star. And, over the course of several weeks and months, as they continued to follow the information they were receiving, they finally were led right to the side of Jesus. It didn’t happen quickly; and I’m sure as they trekked across the desert, cold at night and blazing during the day, they didn’t “feel” the feeling. No, they were not going on feeling, but on the word and the signs they were receptive to.

You know, it’s a lot like us today. There are so many religious teachers out there who are telling us to simply follow our feelings. And our worship services and spiritual exercises cater to our feelings. But remember, these wise men didn’t follow feelings; they followed the ancient writings and didn’t give up.

Have you given up? Been feeling discouraged lately? Then take a lesson from the wise men and get back into the Word and follow the light. Follow the light you were following, and God will guide you to new light.

Have a great week! I’m praying for you!

Mark
