204 Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus

204 Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus

Our Hymn of Response today is #204, Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus. The words are by Charles Wesley in 1744. As are most of his hymns, this one is saturated with scriptural references. It is often used as a Christmas hymn, celebrating the First Advent of Christ. The SDA Hymnal Committee felt it could as appropriately be used to anticipate His Second Advent.

The tune, HYFRYDOL, is one of our great hymn tunes, and is also used for Alleluia! Sing to Jesus! It was written by the Welch hymn-writer Rowland Pritchard at age 19! This arrangement was done by Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1951.
