171 Thine Is the GloryOur Hymn of Response, # 171, Thine Is the Glory, is to a tune by Handel, entitled JUDAS MACCABAEUS; it is part of his oratorio Joshua, written in 1747 (note the same date as our Hymn of Praise). The original words of the hymn were in French, A toi la glorie, and were written in 1884 specifically for this tune, by Edmond Louis Budry, a Swiss Reformed minister. More than 60 of his hymns appear in various French hymnals. Thine is the Glory has been popularized in recent years as a result of its frequent use by The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. 4/29/01MIDI
