132 O Come, All Ye Faithful
132 O Come, All Ye Faithful
The origin of the hymn O Come, All Ye
Faithful is unknown. It first circulated in Latin,
and copies are extant from the early 1700's. It originally
had eight verses, of which we use an English translation
of numbers 1, 7, and 8.
The hymn tune, called ADESTE FIDELES or
PORTUGESE HYMN, was first published in 1751, in handcopied
manuscript form, and originates from the late 1600s.
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem!
Come and behold Him, born the King of angels!
O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!
Sing, choirs of angels sing in exultation,
O sing all ye citizens of heaven above!
Glory to God, all glory in the highest!
O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!
Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning,
Jesus, to Thee be all glory given;
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing!
O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!
