109 Marvelous Grace

The first stanza of this hymn is another way of saying what Paul said in Romans 5:20: "But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound." D. B. Towner wrote the music for more than 2,000 gospel songs published all over the world. Marvelous Grace was published in 1911 by the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.

The author, Julia Johnston, was a pastor's daughter and leader of young children's Sunday school in a First Presbyterian Church. She was a prolific writer of materials for children, having written some 500 hymns.

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord.
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary's mount outpoured
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilt.
